Delhi: A day after securing a decisive victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP on Sunday sought an appointment for its newly elected MLAs to meet Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, media reports said.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva wrote to Saxena, requesting a meeting with the 48 newly elected MLAs and seven Lok Sabha MPs from the capital.

"I, along with the BJP MPs from Delhi and our newly elected 48 MLAs, wish to meet you at an early date. Please allow an appointment at an early date according to your convenience," he wrote to the L-G, reported PTI.

The BJP’s triumph marks its return to power in Delhi after 26 years, defeating AAP, which secured 22 out of 70 seats. The Congress failed to win any seats in the elections held on February 5.

According to BJP leaders, the government formation is expected to take place after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his foreign visit.

Meanwhile, speculation over Delhi’s next chief minister has intensified, with several senior leaders who emerged victorious being considered for the role.

Parvesh Verma, son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, delivered a stunning upset by defeating AAP convener and three-time Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
