BJP holds protest march against TMC's alleged violence in Bengal
Kolkata, Jan 30 (IBNS): A day after the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) allegedly attacked vehicles in West Bengal's east Midnapore district following BJP president Amit Shah's rally, the saffron party on Wednesday held a protest march here.
The march was conducted from the party's headquarters at MG Road to few metres away from downtown Esplanade when the BJP leaders were stopped by police owing to road-blockage issue.
BJP leader Mukul Roy, a former TMC number two person, was at the forefront of the march. Along with Roy, West Bengal BJP women wing president, Locket Chatterjee, and state leader Sayantan Basu were present.
"This is a normal phenomenon of Bengal," Roy told IBNS while reacting to the attacks on BJP workers alleged by TMC on Tuesday.
Chatterjee claimed 700 vehicles of the BJP had been attacked while some of them were set on fire while Shah was addressing the rally. She also said seven out of 11 BJP workers, who were arrested, are still hospitalised.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party claimed it was the BJP that had attacked a TMC party office in Contai, a town in east Midnapore district.
The TMC supremo on Wednesday said the BJP workers themselves had damaged the vehicles and set them on fire.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday over the incident.

In a telephonic conversation, Singh had asked Mamata to take actions against the culprits.
The two leaders reportedly had a heated exchange of words with the TMC supremo asking Singh to control the BJP.
Reacting to his former boss Mamata's message to Singh, Roy said: "This is not true (attack by BJP is not true). BJP workers were beaten up by the Trinamool workers. BJP is doing nothing."
