Karimpur/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Jay Prakash Majumdar from West Bengal's Karimpur constituency, where by-election is underway, was beaten by some people on Monday.

In a video footage, Majumdar was seen beaten and kicked by some people, who have been termed as the Trinamool Congress-patronised men by the BJP candidate.

Hitting out at the ruling Trinamool, Majumdar said, "This is a murder of democracy."

Mukul Roy and Shishir Bajoria-led BJP delegation has urged the Chief Election Commissioner to immediately intervene in 77 Karimpur Assembly.

Reacting to the incident, Roy said, "I haven't seen such incident in my entire political life."

The Karimpur Assembly fell vacant after Trinamool's Mahua Moitra resigned as the MLA as she was elected to the Lok Sabha in May this year.
