BJP brought forward CAA to cover up its failures: Congress

Bengaluru/UNI: Congress on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had brought up the Citizenship law only to 'cover up failures' of his government at the Centre and 'divert the attention' of the people of the country from crucial issues.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Senior Congress leader and the Opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha, Gulam Nabi Azad had charged that Modi-Shah duo had failed the country, in fulfilling the promises they had made during the Lok Sabha elections.

Maintaining that Unemployment is mounting up, Agrarian crisis is growing beyond control and the GDP growth is at its lowest ebb, the congress leader charged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, had dished out all the controversial legislations, to divert the attention of the people of the country.

“Had the controversial legislations were not in the domain, the people of the country would be on street seeking jobs, and forcing the government to bring the derailed economy on track,” the Congress leader said.

Stating that Congress is not opposing to confer citizenship to Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and others, the Opposition leader said, “By selecting religion the BJP government at the Centre had delivered a body blow to the Constitutional values”.
