BJP and Left delegations meet Guv
The BJP and the CPI-M delegations recently attempted to visit Makhra village in Birbhum district. The police did not allow them inside the village showing Section 144.
When they were forcing to enter, police arrested the leaders of both the delegation teams.
West Bengal’s Birbhum district was turned into a political battleground as senior BJP leaders, including Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, were arrested when they tried to enter a village despite prohibitory orders imposed in the region, triggering another conflict with the ruling Trinammol Congress (TMC) in the state.
Besides Naqvi, the BJP's Central delegation included senior leaders such as Kirti Azad, Udit Raj and West Bengal's party unit President Rahul Sinha.
The leaders were later released on bail.
The BJP team allegedly tried to enter the troubled Makhra village where clashes broke out last week between alleged supporters of the BJPand the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress. At least three people were killed and two severely injured in the violence.
On Friday, the BJP and the CPI-M leaders complained to the Governor against that incident.
President of West Bengal BJP Rahul Sinha led the party delegation and brought the victims' families to the Governor. They also requested the Governor to visit Makhra village.
Opposition leader of WB legislative assembly Suryakanta Mishra led CPI-M delegation team demanded the interference of the Governor into the case.
