Bihar: Polling begins for seventh and last phase Lok Sabha election

Patna, May 19 (UNI) Polling began on a peaceful note at 7 AM this morning amid tight security arrangements in eight seats for seventh and last phase Lok Sabha election in Bihar where more than 1.52 crore electorate would exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 157 candidates, including four union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, Ram Kripal Yadav and R K Singh.

Constituencies where polling is in progress in last phase of Lok Sabha elections in Bihar are--Nalanda, Patna Sahib, Patliputra, Ara, Buxar, Sasaram, Karakat and Jehanabad.

Polling in all these Lok Sabha seats would be held till 6 PM barring Masaurhi and Paliganj Assembly segments in Patliputra constituency, Bhabhua, Chainpur, Chenari and Sasaram Assembly segments in Sasaram Lok Sabha constituency and Dehri, Karakat, Goh and Navinagar Assembly segments in Karakat Lok Sabha constituency where polling would be held till 4 PM only due to security reasons.

Polling for Assembly byelection in Dehri constituency is also being held along with this final phase of Lok Sabha election.

An estimated 1.52 crore voters comprising 80,38,007 male voters and 71,53,924 female voters would exercise their franchise at 15811 polling booths in eight constituencies.

The total number of service electors is 60,176, while total number of third gender voters is 501.Total number of candidates in these eight constituencies is 157, including 20 female candidates. Nalanda constituency has maximum number of 35 candidates even as Ara has minimum 11 candidates.

Electorate were seen in large number waiting for their turn at several booths in seats where polling is in progress. Women and first time voters also appeared excited to cast their votes. Elders were also taken to booths by their family members and they were facilitated there in casting their votes by polling personnel on duty.

Polling is expected to gain momentum with progress of the day.
