Bihar: Muslim wedding solemnised in Hindu temple

Patna, Oct 25 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Setting a new example of communal harmony, a mad-in-love Muslim pair had their marriage solemnized at a Hindu temple in Bihar—a rare sight in today’s times.

The bizarre wedding took place at Bhimnagar village in Supaul district in the weekend.

The weddings saw both Hindu and Muslim villagers joining the marriage function and blessing the couple.

Reports said Mohammad Sajjad, a resident of ward number 11 from Bhilmnagar village, was having love affairs with a local Muslim girl Nuresha Khatoon for quite some time.

Very recently, the pair had fled to Delhi as their affairs picked momentum.

After staying there for about a week, they had returned to their home a couple of days back but the neither the village nor their respective families objected to their affairs.

Instead, the elders from both the communities sat together to debate the issue and eventually decided to get them married soon.

However, a local Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva was chosen to solemnize their marriage to script a new story of social and communal harmony.

On Saturday, the wedding was solemnized in a local temple amid presence of members from both the community. While the Maulana (Muslim priest) read out selected piece from the holy Quran, Hindu priest chanted vedic mantras. Also present on the occasion were Hindu women who sang Hindu wedding songs, creating a very lovely wedding ambience.

But, why the Muslim wedding in a Hindu temple? “It was all done to convey a message of communal harmony in the society,” said Maulana Yunus who conducted the wedding, adding, “I never came across such wedding”.
