Kolkata/New Delhi/IBNS: The 24 hours national strike called by ten trade unions started from 6 am morning as protesters were seen blocking rail tracks in West Bengal on Wednesday.

According to reports, the transport system has been hit in several areas of Odisha.

Around 25 crore workers are expected to participate in the strike called across the nation by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

In Bengal, protesters were seen blocking railway track in Howrah and Kanchrapara areas in North 24 Parganas district.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extended his support to the protesters.

He tweeted: "The Modi-Shah Govt’s anti people, anti labour policies have created catastrophic unemployment & are weakening our PSUs to justify their sale to Modi’s crony capitalist friends. Today, over 25 crore workers have called for #BharatBandh2020 in protest. I salute them."
