A stalker slit the throat and killed a 20-year-old B. Pharma student in broad daylight close to railway tracks in Bengaluru, media reports said on Friday.

The deceased person was identified as Yamini Priya.

Priya, who studied in a private college, was a resident of Swatantra Palya.

According to reports, the stalker attacked him when she was on her way home.

The accused reportedly arrived on the spot in a two-wheeler and slit her throat with a knife. He escaped from the spot.

Speaking on the incident, Babasab Nemagoud, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) was quoted as saying by India Today: "Information was received about a woman's body being found near a railway track under Srirampura limits. On spot verification by our officials, it was found to be the body of a woman aged about 20 years with injuries on her face and neck."

“While she was returning from college, a miscreant attacked her and escaped. We have registered a case based on a complaint from her relatives, and efforts are on to nab the culprit. Further investigations are underway," the DCP said.

Speaking on the identity of the attacker, Nemagoud said, “We have some information about the culprit. He is said to be a person from the same locality. Once he is secured, we will get more information. A detailed interrogation will be conducted after his arrest.”

Police suspect the attacker was stalking Priya for several days and even proposed to her.

Police said she rejected her advances, which might have led to the attack.
