Bengal polls: Voting begins in 49 seats in 4th phase

New Delhi, Apr 25 (IBNS): Amid tight security, polling for the fourth phase of the West Bengal assembly polls begun on Monday.

Over 1.08 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise to decide the fates of 345 candidates contesting across 49 constituencies spread over two districts - Howrah and North 24 Parganas.

While, 33 constituencies are in North 24 Parganas, 16 are in Howrah.

Voters  are expected to vote across 12,481 polling stations in the two districts of the state.

As many as 672 companies of central forces will provide security in the districts.

23,000 state police personnel have also been deployed to maintain law and order during the polling.

The main contest is between the ruling Trnamool Congress, BJP and Congress-Left alliance where Khardah in North 24 Parganas district is witnessing a battle between two major candidates-state finance, industries and information technology minister Amit Mitra and CPI-M leader Asim Dasgupta.

TMC leader Madan Mitra, who is currently in custody in connection with Saradha scam, is contesting from Kamarhati seat.
