Bengal Polls 2021: PM Modi to address rally in Purulia today

Kolkata/IBNS: To bolster the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s campaign for the first phase of election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday address a rally at Purulia in poll-bound West Bengal.

This is Modi's first rally since his adversary and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was allegedly attacked in poll epicentre Nandigram.

During his last rally at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground on Mar 7, Modi had launched his political assault on Mamata and her ruling Trinamool Congress, pledging to bring "asol poriborton" or real change in the state.

Purulia in north Bengal is one of the constituencies where the BJP had performed massively well in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

While the Trinamool is desperate to win back the lost ground in north Bengal, the BJP is aiming to consolidate on its spectacular performance registered a couple of years ago.

Meanwhile, the BJP is rattled by the dissents by the party workers over the candidates listed for various seats causing worry for the top brass.

The first phase of election will be held on Mar 27.

The saffron party is likely to unveil its poll manifesto on Sunday.
