Kolkata/UNI: Newly elected Trinamool Congress panchayat member Moimur Gharami, alias Moyna, was lynched to death after a gunshot from the miscreants missed the target, which hit his companion, in front of his house at Magrahat in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, police said on Saturday.

A companion, identified as Sajimul Mollah, was admitted to the Diamond Harbour Hospital with a hand injury.

Three times elected, Gharami was lynched to death in front of his home, Arjunpur, at around 2230 hours after gunshots missed him, which wounded Sajimul.

The panchayat member was declared dead on arrival at the government hospital in the district.

The police arrested four suspects in the brutal murder.

Sources said a land dispute led to the murder of the TMC leader.
