Kolkata/IBNS: The West Bengal government is likely to prepone the summer vacation in all government and government-aided schools due to the prevailing heatwave in the state, media reports said.

The summer vacation is likely to start from April 22.

The vacation was earlier scheduled to begin from May 6.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has spoken to the education department regarding bringing forward the vacation due to the heat spell, reports claim.

Schools affiliated to CBSE and ICSE have also been requested to begin the summer vacation from April 22.

While some private schools have already preponed the vacation, others are mulling a change in their plans.

The heatwave has claimed two lives on Tuesday as people in the state are unable to grasp with the scorching summer.

A 62-year-old woman in Sonarpur and a man in his early 50s in Barasat succumbed to the heat spell.

The Met office has predicted the temperatures to soar over 40 degree celcius in the coming days.
