Kolkata/IBNS: Ending all speculations, former MLA from West Bengal’s Domjur, Rajib Banerjee, resigned as the Trinamool Congress member.

He has sent his resignation to Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee and party‘s state president Subrata Bakshi.

Earlier in the day, he had resigned as the lawmaker.

Banerjee, who was seen coming out of the assembly with his party supremo Mamata Banerjee's portrait, earlier said in the day, “I have officially resigned as the MLA today. I thank the Speaker for cooperating with me for the last 10 years."

"I also thank my party supremo Mamata Banerjee for giving me an opportunity to become an MLA. She is like a mother-figure to me," he said.

Responding to a question on whether he would switch to the BJP, Banerjee, who had resigned as the Forest Minister of West Bengal a week ago, said, "Let's see. I will inform you about it tomorrow."

Interestingly, Union Home Minister and BJP strongman Amit Shah will be in the state for a two-day visit from Friday night.

Several media reports claim several current or former Trinamool MLAs will join the BJP in presence of Shah on Sunday.

Banerjee also said he needed a party to work for people.

“In a parliamentary democracy, I feel a party is needed to work for common people,” Banerjee said.
