Bengal CID makes first arrest in illegal coal mining case
Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday night nabbed a businessman in connection with its ongoing probe into an illegal coal mining scam, officials said on Saturday.
According to reports, one of the key accused in the case Anup Maji alias Lala's close aide, businessman Randhir Singh, was picked up from Andal in West Burdwan district.
Sources in the state investigation department said that Randhir Singh used to perform a key role in the illegal coal mining and smuggling racket.
He will be produced before a local court in West Burdwan.
Besides WB CID, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) are also probing the case.
Earlier, the CBI questioned Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira Naroola Banerjee and her sister Menoka Gambhir in connection with the case while Menoka Gambhir's husband, Ankush Arora, and his father, Pawan Arora, have been summoned by the agency.
All the probe agencies are currently hunting for the primary accused in the case- Anup Maji alias Lala who has been absconding since the investigation was initiated.
