Kolkata/IBNS: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday carried out a raid at the premise of TMC leader and Halisahar Municipality's chairman, Raju Sahani, in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas in connection with its ongoing probe into a chit fund scam, and recovered a huge amount of cash from the location, officials said.

According to sources in the central probe agency, at least Rs 80 lakh in cash and a country-made firearm have been recovered from Raju Sahani's premise, while the CBI has arrested the TMC leader.

CBI officials said that Raju Sahani, who has been arrested in connection with the Burdwan Sunmarg Welfare Society chit fund case, has multiple bank accounts using which he allegedly "took protection money from the organization".

The TMC leader reportedly has bank accounts in Thailand too.

A CBI officer said the counting of notes recovered from Sahani's place is underway and the exact amount of seized cash can be confirmed after the counting is completed.

"Raju Sahani is currently being interrogated," a CBI official said.
