Bengal: BJP leader Mukul Roy rubbishes rumour of his return to TMC

| @indiablooms | May 08, 2021, at 11:33 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukul Roy on Saturday rubbished the rumour of his possible joining in his former party Trinamool Congress (TMC), a day after he met a ruling party member in the state assembly.

Roy, who is the BJP national vice president, tweeted, "My fight would continue as a soldier of BJP to restore democracy in our state. I would request everyone to put the concoctions and conjectures to rest. I am resolute in my political path."

The veteran politician, who won his maiden elections in 2021 from Krishnanagar, on Friday fuelled speculations after he met TMC state president Subrata Bakshi in the assembly, moments after he took oath as an MLA in the assembly.

In an interesting comment, Roy, who called his meeting with Bakshi a "courtesy" one, said on Friday, "I won't say anything today. I will call everyone and say when I would need to."

The BJP leader, the former de facto TMC number two, crossed over to the BJP in 2017.

Despite beating TMC's star candidate Kaushani Mukherjee in Krishnanagar, Roy, who was close to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in the last few days kept his profile low and was also missing from various events of the BJP.

The rumours of crossovers emerged after Mamata's TMC registered a landslide victory in the recently concluded state polls by winning 213 of 294 seats (two seats due to be polled), trumping the BJP which won only 77 seats.
