Bangladeshi fishermen rescued by Indian Coast guards in Bay of Bengal
Deputy Inspector General Yogendra Makwana, Chief Staff Officer (Operations) for Coast Guard Friday informed that Bangladeshi fishermen were fishing in their own area on two of their trawlers "Allar Dan" and "Farhad".
They became inoperative during the bad weather caused by low pressure on the Bay of Bengal and got drifted into Indian waters.
Makwana said Indian coast guard vessel, which was patrolling in the area, rescued the fishermen at about 40 nautical miles off Sagar Island located in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, about 100 km south of Kolkata Wednesday and Thursday .
All the fishermen are fine and have been provided with necessary food and medicine by the coast guard.
The rescued fishermen have been lodged at Frazer Ganj in the same district while their trawlers are being repaired, Makwana said.
Makwana said: “We are now awaiting further instructions from the head quarter.”
