Baby Lily:Indian government to help British couple to get visa extended, says Sushma Swaraj
The couple is facing trouble as they might had to leave the child,named Baby Lily, as they could not manage a British passport for her.
Sushma Swaraj urged the couple-Chris and Michele Newman- to obtain British passport for the baby.
"Chris & Michele Newman - Orphanage is not an option for Baby Lily. We will help u with extension of your Visa. Pl give your details," Swaraj tweeted.
"Chris & Michele Newman -Meanwhile, pl obtain British passport for Baby Lily," she said.
Raising the issue, the Indian Minister had earlier tweeted: "Commercial surrogacy is banned in Britain. Will British Government give a British passport to this surrogate Baby ?"
She had said: "Will the advocates of commercial surrogacy suggest a solution and help this Baby ? Pl RT."
As per a BBC report: "A British couple whose surrogate daughter was born in India now face the prospect of leaving her in a Mumbai orphanage, because of UK government delays in processing her passport."
Lily's dad Chris told BBC Radio 5 live's Adrian Chiles he is horrified at the prospect of not coming home with his daughter.
