Babri Demolition : SC adjourns hearing for two weeks, asks parties to file written submissions

New Delhi, Mar 23 (IBNS) : The Supreme Court on Thursday once again adjourned the hearing of the Babri Masjid demolition case for two weeks and asked BJP leaders L K Advani, M M Joshi and other accused to give their written submissions, reports said.

A two-judge bench  comprising Justices P C Ghose and R F Nariman asked all the parties in the case to file their written arguments by April 6 and deferred the matter to be heard on  April 7.

At the start of the hearing, senior advocate K K Venugopal, appearing for the BJP leaders, sought permission from the court for appearing before another bench in a part-heard matter.

On Thursday,  the Supreme Court was to hear the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) plea against the Allahabad High Court’s order dropping criminal conspiracy charges against the BJP leaders in the case.

On Wednesday, while hearing the plea against the BJP leaders in the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992, the apex court had deferred the hearing saying that the plea would be heard by a bench comprising Justice Pinaki Ghose and Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman.

The bench had also said that  it will not accept dropping of conspiracy charges on technical grounds.

On December 6 in 1992, a group of karsevaks dismantled the Babri Masjid which the Hindus believed to be the  Lor Ram's birth place.
