Ayodhya case: Daily hearings end, Supreme Court reserves verdict

New Delhi: Ending the 40-day hearing, the Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its judgement in the politically-sensitive Ayodhya case.

This was the last day of hearing in the case.

On the last day of hearing, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi was annoyed after the representative of the Muslim petitioners torn apart a pictorial map showing Ram Janmasthan handed over by a counsel of All India Hindu Mahasabha, media reports said.

Reacting to the incident, CJI Gogoi said the decorum of the top court is being spoiled.

The case is related to the issue that whether the Ram Temple can be built in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya area.

The Supreme Court resumed the day-to-day hearings on the case on Monday after a week-long Dussera holiday.

What happened in Ayodhya and why the case is significant?

In 1992, the disputed Babri Masjid structure was brought down by several right-wing volunteers who believe Lord Ram was born on that site.

On Sept 27 last year, the apex court had refused to re-visit its 1994 verdict which had stated mosque was not important for Muslims to offer prayers, paving way for the hearing of the Ayodhya case.
