Srinagar/UNI: In view of recent fresh snowfall in upper catchments, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir issued an avalanche warning in four districts of the Union Territory on Friday.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), in a statement issued here, said an avalanche with a “low danger” level is likely to occur above 2250 metres above sea level over the north Kashmir district of Kupwara in the next 24 hours.

Avalanche with “medium danger" level is likely to occur at 2500 metres above sea level over the north Kashmir district of Bandipora, Baramulla and central Kashmir district of Ganderbal in the next 24 hours.

People living in these areas are advised to take precautions and avoid venturing into avalanche-prone areas, the statement added.

Major parts, including the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, received moderate to heavy snowfall during the past few days causing avalanche threats to the people living in prone areas.
