Australian PM Anthony Albanese arrives in India, visits Sabarmati Ashram

Ahmedabad: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived in Ahmedabad city in Gujarat on Wednesday as he commenced his four-day visit to India.

In his first major engagements in the country, he visited the Sabarmati Ashram and participated in Holi event celebrations at the Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar.

Appreciating the welcome he received in Ahmedabad, the PM tweeted: " An incredible welcome to Ahmedabad, India. The beginning of an important trip for Australia-India relations."

Speaking on his visit to the Ashram, the PM said: "A true privilege to pay homage to Gandhi's legacy at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad."

Ahead of his arrival in the country, PM Narendra Modi said the country is eagerly waiting for his visit to the South Asian nation.

"India eagerly awaits your arrival! Looking forward to productive deliberations to further the India-Australia friendship," Modi tweeted.

PM Albanese is leading a delegation of 27 people, including Senator Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Tourism, and Madeleine King MP, Minister for Resources and Northern Australia.
