Attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims evokes nationwide condemnation

New Delhi/Srinagar, July 11 (IBNS): Monday's terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir has evoked widespread condemnation from all sections of society.

At least seven Amarnath  pilgrims were killed on Monday evening in yet another terror attack in Anantnag district.

According to reports, the terrorists opened fire on a bus of pilgrims around 8.20 PM which injured about 12 persons as well.

Following the incident, people from various fields came out and criticised it.

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan on Twitter said: "Saddening to see innocent lives being taken. Prayers for the victims & may God give strength to the families of the #AmarnathYatra pilgrims."

Condemning the attack, former Indian captain Sachin Tendukar, said on Twitter: "Deeply disturbed by the terror attack on #AmarnathYatra pilgrims. Thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and their families."

The bus, which was coming from Gujarat, was reportedly not part of the main yatra convoy. As a result, it was not registered with the shrine board, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) told media.The CRPF covers the main yatra convoy otherwise.

Actor, director and song writer Farhan Akhtar called the attack as 'deplorable'. "The attack on #AmarnathYatra pilgrims is deplorable... shame on the perpetrators and hope justice is delivered swiftly," he tweeted.

The Kashmir Police on Tuesday said the LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) was behind the terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Anantnag district on Monday evening killing seven yatris and leaving many injured.

Kashmir IG said the attack was carried out by the Lashkar.  Pakistani terrorist Abu Ismail is said to be the main mastermind behind it.

Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, another actor from the film fraternity, Anupam Kher, reacted to the incident. In a different tone. Kher opined that the mass killing should be dealt with 'force'.

"It is high time we Stop being diplomatic & defensive. Killing of innocent people should be dealt with total force. #AmarnathYatra" the actor tweeted.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said the attack is "an assault on our values and traditions".

Criticising the attack, Union home minister Rajnath Singh said: "Its saddening. But I salute all sections people of Kashmir for condemning it."
