Assam: Rs 1.80 crore in new currency notes seized in Guwahati

Guwahati, Dec 12 (IBNS): Assam Police on Monday seized Rs 1.80 crore in new currency notes from an apartment in Guwahati.

According to the reports, a CID team of Assam police seized the huge amount from the Riddhi Siddhi apartment after receiving information from sources.

DIG (CID) Raunak Ali Hazarika said that, the new currency notes were found from the house of a businessman identified as Prem Sing Bedi.

“We have found huge new currency notes of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 from the bedroom of the businessman,” the top police corp said.

Meanwhile, the CID has registered a case in connection with the seizure incident.

The department has handed over the case to Income Tax department.

Following the demonetization decision announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8, this is the first such case where huge amount of new currency notes have been seized in Assam.

In last week, police seized Rs 20 lakh in new currency notes from a house at Hatigaon area in the city and arrested four persons.
