Assam Rifles seize contraband drugs worth of Rs 2.85 crore in Manipur

Guwahati, Oct 14 (IBNS): The troops of Assam Rifles seized a huge cache of contraband drugs worth Rs 2.85 crore from Manipur on Saturday.

In a major haul, Tengnoupal battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles seized the huge cache of contraband drugs from Imphal - Moreh National Highway (NH 102).

A top official of Assam Rifles said that, the Tengnoupal battalion and DRI seized contraband drugs Brown Sugar weighing 714 grams in 50 packets, from a car bearing registration number MN-01AK-3492 coming from Morehat Permanent Vehicle Check Post (PVCP), Khudengthabi.

The driver of the vehicle identified as Jangkomang Haokip, a resident of Moreh was taken into custody by Assam Rifles immediately.

There after the seized items and the apprehendee were handed over to DRI at Imphal.

Ongoing illegal drug trade are a major cause of concern for the state of Manipur.

Since March, 2018, 26 Sector Assam Rifles seized contraband drugs worth Rs 70.09 crore in Manipur.
