Assam Rifles conducts tree plantation drive, promotes awareness on AIDS

Imphal: Somsai Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recently conducted Tree Plantation Drive at Phaibung village, Ukhrul District, Manipur on Thursday.

In the sequence of events a total of 200 saplings of Pine trees were planted along with villagers of Phaibung Vill and NH - 102 A.

The Village Authorities applauded the efforts made by Assam Rifles for undertaking the initiative.

On the other hand, Standing firm on its credo of "Friends of the North East", Churachandpur Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) spreads awareness of AIDS at border villages of Tuitam Khongkhai and Govajang in Churachandpur District on Thursday.

On the occasion of World AIDS Day, troops of Assam Rifles organised an awareness lecture on 'Prevention, Causes & Diagnosis of AIDS' at border villages of Tuitam Khongkhai and Govajang to curb the spread of AIDS in remote areas. The locals were further educated on common misconceptions, stigma and biasness regarding the disease that fuels the trauma of AIDS patients.

The event saw exhilarating participation by the locals of these villages as it was attended by 30 villagers.
