Assam: Police seize drugs worth Rs 2 crore

Guwahati: Guwahati city police on Tuesday evening seized contraband drugs worth Rs 2 crore and arrested a drug peddler at Sijubari area in the capital city of Assam.

Based on secret information, a police team led by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Joint Commissioner of Police of Guwahati intercepted a commercial vehicle at Sijubari area under Hatigaon police station and seized nearly 250 grams of heroin in possession of a person.

Police arrested a person identified as Ritumoni Pator alias Tikni who carried the drugs.

"The arrested person named Tikni had carried the drugs from Manipur. He travelled from Manipur to Dimapur via truck and from Dimapur to Guwahati via train. After that he booked a commercial vehicle and came to area to meet another person to deliver the drugs. We intercepted the vehicle and seized the drugs and also arrested the drug peddler," Partha Sarathi Mahanta said.

The Joint Commissioner of Police of Guwahati also said that, the market value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 2 crore.

He also said that, following the operations against drugs, the drug mafias have changed its original tactics and have taken new formulas.
