Guwahati, Oct 30 (IBNS): Assam police have detained a school teacher for his alleged derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.

Police have also registered a case in connection with it.

The government school teacher has been identified as Abu Taleb and he is an assistant Hindi teacher of Lakhipur Higher Secondary School in lower Assam’s Goalpara district.

Abu Taleb posted on social media that: “Voting for Narendra Modi’s BJP candidate and garlanding a dog is the same thing”.

According to the reports, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s  Lakhipur unit president Saddam Hussain lodged an FIR against the teacher for his alleged derogatory remarks against PM Modi at Goalpara police station.

Apart from the BJP worker, the Inspector of Schools, Goalpara has also lodged an FIR against Abu Taleb.

Based on two complaints, Goalpara district police registered a case (no 660/2018) against Abu Taleb and police on Monday had detained the teacher.

Police have seized a mobile phone of Abu Taleb and some documents.

Goalpara district Superintendent of Police (SP) Amitav Sinha said that, based on two complaints, police has already registered a case and detained the government school teacher.

“However, he has been allowed to go after interrogation and our investigation is going on,” the Goalpara district SP said.

On the other hand, the state education department had suspended the government teacher for his alleged post against PM Modi.
