Guwahati, Jan 5 (IBNS): Assam Police and the state's intelligence agencies a keeping close watch on former NDFB leader IK Songbijit and his activities in Karbi Anglong district and some parts of northern Assam.

He formed a new outfit called People's Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK) last year in Myanmar.

A top official of Assam Police said that several cadres of NDFB may have joined the new outfit group.

"Initially Songbijit Ingti Kathar, the detached leader of NDFB, formed the PDCK with his eyes on the Karbi hills. But the new outfit's strength may have increased after a few NDFB cadres joined it," a top police official said.

"Following intelligence inputs, we have alerted the concerned district police to launch massive operation against the Songbijit-led militant group," the police official said.

The PDCK is also a associate member of the United Liberation Front of Western South East Asia comprising NSCN (K), Ulfa (I), Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO), NLFT, KCP.

Recently, the PDCK, NLFT and KLO warned the Hindi and Bengali people to quit Kamatapur, Karbi Longri and Tripura before March 31 or be ready to face the consequences.

Following the threat, Assam police has raised the security cover in such areas to prevent any untoward situation.
