Guwahati, Sept 17 (IBNS) : Assam police have arrested three more suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists from central Assam’s Hojai and Nagaon district on Sunday night, taking the number of arrest to seven.

According to reports, police have arrested two suspected Hizbul operatives from Jamunamukh area in Hojai district and another from Kachua area in Nagaon district.

The arrested suspected terrorists were identified as 55-year-old Jainal Ahmed, 23-year-old Baharul Islam and 50-year-old Riyajuddin.

Police have also conducted search operation in the house of Baharul Islam and seized few incriminating documents.

Earlier, Assam police had arrested four suspected Hizbul terrorists from different locations of Hojai district.

After the arrest of Qamar-uz-Zaman, a suspected terrorist of Hizbul Mujahideen who hails from Hojai’s Jamunamukh by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) at Kanpur on Sept 13, the Assam police have arrested seven of its operatives in past 72 hours.

Special DGP of Assam Pallav Bhattacharya said that, on the basis of the interrogation of Qamar-uz-Zaman and other people, Assam police have so far arrested seven suspected Hizbul operatives.

“All things have been closely scrutinized by our investigating teams. We have closely monitored the issue and the security agencies of Government of India and Assam have been used to stop such kind activities. How many have joined the outfit and how many have not able to join, all aspects will come out during the investigation, Pallav Bhattacharya said.

The top Assam cop further said that, earlier some Pakistan supported terrorist groups also tried to set up base and network in Assam, but they failed because of Assamese community have not accepted their ridiculous ideology.

“From Harkat-ul-Mujahideen to HUJI, Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh had earlier tried to set up their bases in Assam. But they failed. People of Assamese society have not accepted their ideology. After Khagragarh blast, Assam police and other security agencies had arrested 56 JMB terrorists,” Bhattacharya said

Qamar-uz-Zaman was allegedly recruited in Kishtwar district in Jammu region of Jammu & Kashmir as he went missing in 2017 until April 2018 and appeared his picture in the social media with an AK-47 rifle as a Hizbul ultra.

On Saturday, Assam police had arrested two youths identified as Saidul Alam and Umar Faruk and they were very close with Qamar-uz-Zaman.
