Assam mob lynching: 14 persons arrested so far

Guwahati, Aug 21 (IBNS) : Assam police have arrested one more person in connection with the mob lynching incident that happened on Aug 15 early morning at Sootea area in northern Assam’s Biswanath district.

A person was beaten to death and three others were injured in a mob attack incident on suspicion of being cattle thieves.

According to the reports, Biswanath district police on Tuesday arrested a person named Dinesh Pator.

He is a secretary of Village Defence Party.

Earlier, police had arrested 13 persons in connection with the lynching incident.

On Aug 15 morning, a group of men intercepted an auto van at 15 number line of Diplonga tea estate and assaulted four persons on suspicion of being cattle thieves.

One among the four people died in the mob attack and three others received severe injuries.

Following the incident, police had registered two cases at Sootea police station.

Biswanath district Superintendent of Police (SP) Diganta Kumar Choudhury said that, police had already registered two cases in connection with the incident and investigation is going on.

It is to be mentioned that, on June 8 last, two youths from Guwahati were beaten to death by a mob in the name of child traffickers at Panjuri village under Dokmoka police station in Karbi Anglong district.
