Guwahati/IBNS: The government introduced the 'Digi Yatra' initiative at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on Sunday, enabling contactless and seamless passenger movement through the utilization of Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) at airport checkpoints.

Under this pioneering initiative, which represents the first of its kind in the Northeastern region, travelers can conveniently undergo the registration process on the Digi Yatra app and gain entry to the airport premises by undergoing facial scans, Guwahati Plus.

The facial recognition system promptly grants access upon successful identification of the passenger's face by the camera.

The service is set to be operational across three pivotal sections of the airport: the primary entrance, the check-in zone, and the boarding areas.

Inaugurating the service at the LGBI airport, Assam Industries & Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary lauded the endeavor as a significant stride towards streamlining air travel.

"This is a novel attempt by the government to make air travel hassle-free. We hope that the majority of passengers in the northeast will use this facility in the near future," remarked Utpal Baruah, Chief Airport Officer of LGBI.

Currently accessible to Akasa and IndiGo passengers in Guwahati, the 'Digi Yatra' facility is slated to be extended to all other airlines operating from the airport by the onset of September.

High-ranking officials, including Rajiv Bansal, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, Adil Khan, Secretary of Transport, Government of Assam, and Utpal Barua, Chief Airport Officer, were in attendance during the launch event.

The introduction of the 'Digi Yatra' initiative at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport reflects the government's commitment to leverage technological advancements to enhance travel experiences while maintaining security and efficiency.
