Assam govt to set up three more Medical colleges
Assam Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that, the new Medical colleges will be set up in Tinsukia, Kokrajhar and Karimganj district and the total number of Medical college will be increased to 14.
“The DoNER ministry has sanctioned Rs 220 crore for the construction of Nalbari Medical college. Assam government will spent Rs 22 crore (10 per cent) as state share for the project. The land acquisition for the project has been started at Dakshingaon area, 10 km away from Nalbari town. The new Medical college and hospital will be equipped with 500-bed hospital and annually intake capacity of students would be 100. The construction work of the project will be started within three months and likely to complete within next three years,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Assam minister said that, the construction work of Diphu Medical college and hospital has been already completed and the recruitment process of teachers and other staff will be starting soon.
“The construction works of other three Medical colleges in Lakhimpur, Nagaon and Dhubri are ongoing,” Sarma said.
On the other hand, the Assam Health minister said that, the state government will provide smart card under Atal Amrit Abhijan to 1.5 crore people in the state by October 30 next.
“The Atal Amrit Abhijan was launched by the state government on December 25 in last year. Both, Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Above Poverty Line (APL) families with annual income below Rs 5 lakh are eligible for it. The scheme has covered 437 illness of six disease groups like cancer, kidney and the people are benefited up to Rs 2 lakh financial help under the scheme,” Sarma said.
“Aiming to convert the scheme from manual process to digital process, we have started to provide smart card under the scheme and already provided smart cards to 32 lakh people. We are going to launch the smart card process under the scheme by October 30 next,” Sarma said.
The Assam minister further said that, the state government has also decided to spread the free dialysis treatment for kidney patient to 26 district hospitals.
