Assam goes to first phase of assembly polls on Monday
A total of 95,11,732 voters of 65 assembly constituencies will decide the fates of 539 candidates in the first phase poll in the state.
Some of the very old voters said they want to see development and will vote to bring by changing their representatives many of whom have not shown up in past five years after winning polls.
92 year-old Jongkhing Jongkuk, a residents of Hanju village under Margherita assembly constituency of Upper Assam seeks a change in the state.
Jongkhing, who cast his vote in all elections in the state since 1951 said that, his village is situated in a remote area but facing several problems including connectivity.
“We only want development. In past 15 years, we didn’t get anything from the government," he said.
Apart from Jongkhing, another resident of the remote village 35 year-old Bijoy Lorom said that, after last assembly poll in 2011, they didn’t see their MLA in past five years.
“They come here only during the election time and give lots of promises. After the election they forget us and their promises,” Bijoy said.
“The politicians used us as their vote banks. But this time we will change it by using our constitutional rights,” Bijoy said.
