Assam flood situation remains grim, death toll climbs to 52

Guwahati, July 14 (IBNS): The flood situation in Assam remained grim even on Friday as three more lives were claimed, which took the death toll to 52.

The floods have affected over 14.97 lakh people of 25 districts.

According to the reports of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), three persons were drowned in Dhubri, Dhemaji and Nagaon district.

More than 14.97 lakh people of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Jorhat, Sivsagar, Dibrugarh, Majuli, Golaghat, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, South Salmara, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Nagaon, Morigaon, Karimganj, Charaideo, Cachar, Karbi Anglong, Kamrup districts have been affected by the current deluge.

“Over 3.06 lakh people are affected in South Salmara district along with the Indo-Bangladesh border, while 2.23 people affected in middle Assam’s Morigaon district, 1.24 lakh in Nalbari, 94,000 in Golaghat district,” a top official of ASDMA said.

The flood waters submerged 79,157.84 hectares crop areas of 2240 villages under 75 revenue circles of the flood-hit districts.

Authorities are running 363 relief camps and distribution centres in 19 districts, where 25,269 flood-affected people have been taken shelter.
