Assam CM urges PM to take up issue of dams with China

Guwahati, Aug 12 (IBNS) : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the silence maintained by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of construction of dams on the Brahmaputra by China which will adversely affect downstream areas of Assam and the North East Region.

“In spite of the knowledge of Government of India (GoI) regarding construction of large dams by China on the Brahmaputra, I fail to comprehend why the GoI is not taking the matter seriously,” Gogoi said in a statement.

Gogoi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up with China the issue of construction of dams on the Brahmaputra during the latter’s recent visit to the neighbouring country.

The Assam Chief Minister once again urged the Prime Minister to take up the issue with China in right earnest for the greater interest of the country.
