Guwahati, Feb 26 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal thanked the Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel for carrying out air strikes against terrorists in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir.

He also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his timely action in safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the IAF has today given a strong reply. 130 crore people of India are today elated in response to the courage and conviction shown by Prime Minister Modi in carrying out offensive against the anti-India forces hell bent to create disturbances in the country," Sonowal said while attending a meeting of BJP workers in Guwahati.

"The PM has once again proved himself as he dedicated himself to the nation. After taking oath as the Prime Minister of India in 2014, he said that, I have come to serve the country as a principal servant and today he has once again proved it through his work,” said he.

India confirms surgical strike:

The Indian government on Tuesday said the IAF had carried out a "non-military pre-emptive" surgical strike.

Briefing the media, India's foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale said the strike aimed at Jaish camps.

"In an intelligence led operation in the early hours of today, India struck the biggest training camp of JeM in Balakot. In this operation, a very large number of JeM terrorists, trainers, senior commanders and groups of jihadis who were being trained for fidayeen action were eliminated. This facility at Balakot was headed by MAULANA YOUSUF AZHAR (alias USTAD GHOURI), the brother-in-law of MASOOD AZHAR, Chief of JeM," the foreign secretary said.

Reports said 1,000 kg bombs were dropped on Jaish bases across the LoC by multiple jets, including the IAF’s Mirage 2000.
