Assam CM calls for joint action to improve academic environment

Guwahati, May 8 (IBNS) : Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal ceremoniously distributed scholarships under Chief Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (CMSSS) to meritorious students of class V and VIII of Kamrup and Kamrup Metro district in a programme held at Sarusajai Sports Stadium in Guwahati on Monday.

Under CMSSS, fixed deposit certificate of Rs. 5,000 is distributed to meritorious students who have qualified the scholarship examination during 2016.

The Assam Elementary Education Department, will distribute fixed deposit certificates to 46,809 students of class V and 46,964 students of class VIII throughout the state within this month.

While speaking on the occasion, the Assam CM called for joint action by teachers, students, parents and government for improving academic environment of the state.

“Teachers, students, parents and the Government have to join hands and march ahead to create a better academic environment in the state,” Sonowal said.

Quoting Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the Chief Minister said that, if you have to shine, you’ll have to burn like a sun there is no shortcut to success and alternative to hardwork for attaining the same.

Terming the students as the future of the nation, the Assam CM urged the students to shoulder the responsibility to help building a strong nation.

“If the students work hard and emerge as quality human resource, the state will prosper,” Sonowal said.

The Assam CM also highlighted the role of teachers in developing the personality of the students and advised them to help in instilling good qualities, discipline and confidence among students.

Sonowal further put focus on convergence of new and innovative technology in the education sector and urged the students to acquaint themselves with the same for achieving success in life.

State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while delivering his speech stated that the scholarship scheme was launched in 2012-13 with an aim to assess the merit of class V and VIII students of the state.

However, the scheme discontinued for last few years and the present government has re-launched the same considering the great contribution this scholarship scheme could make to the academic field of the state.

Stating that the CMSSS would help students in their future academic life, Sarma informed that SEBA would conduct examination under this scheme from next year and marksheet would also be provided to successful students. He also stated that fund under this scheme would be transferred to successful students through RTGS from next year.

The Education Minister also directed the district education officials to complete distribution of scholarship in the entire state within a period of one month.

Hitesh Deka, Vice Chancellor of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University also spoke on the occasion.

Commissioner and Secretary, Elementary Education Department Pritom Saikia, DC, Kamrup (Metro) M Angamuthu, MD, SSA Aruna Rajouria, Director, Elementary Education Sanjib Bhuyan were present among others in the programme.
