Assam assembly polls in three phases starting from March 27

Guwahati/IBNS: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced the assembly poll dates for Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.

Voting for the Assam Assembly Election will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6 and counting of votes for all four states and one Union Territory will take place on May 2.

A total of 2.29 crore voters in Assam will elect legislators for the 126 seats contested and  33,530 polling stations have been officially recognized by the Election Commission of India.

The first phase will include 47 assembly constituencies and the notification will be issued on March 2.

The last date for filing nominations by the candidates for the Assembly polls will be March 9 while the scrutiny will be done by the Commission on March 10. The last date of withdrawal is March 12, and the poll will be held on March 27.

The second phase will include 39 assembly constituencies and the notification for the same will be issued on March 5.

The last date for filing nominations will be March 12 and the scrutiny of candidature will be done by the Commission on March 15. The last date of withdrawal is March 17 and the poll will be held on April 1.

The third and final phase will include 40 assembly constituencies and the notification of the same will be issued on March 12.

The last date for filing nomination will be March 19 while the scrutiny will be done by the Commission on March 20. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is March 22 and the poll will be held on April 6.

In 2016, the assembly polls in Assam were held in two phases. The BJP and its ally parties won 86 of the state’s 126 assembly constituencies.
