Guwahati/IBNS: Congress-AIUDF and four other political parties on Tuesday announced to form a grand alliance to fight against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party in the Assam assembly polls which is scheduled in April-May this year.

After a series of discussions between Congress, AIUDF, CPI, CPI (M), CPI (ML) and Anchalik Gana Morcha, the leaders of six political parties have announced it in a joint press conference held at a hotel in Guwahati.

The leaders of the political parties announced that all six political parties have decided to form a grand alliance for the greater interest of the people of the state and to save Assam.

They had also appealed other anti-BJP political parties to come forward and join in the grand alliance to jointly fight against BJP.

“Our doors are opened for all like-minded parties. We have come forward on demand of the people of Assam to oust BJP from power. Today is a historic day for Assam. It is a first time in Assam that six political parties have now come forward to fight unitedly against BJP,” Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora said.

On the other hand, senior Congress leader and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that this grand alliance will show a very good result in upcoming assembly polls in Assam and will win more than 100 seats.

AIUDF general secretary Aminul Islam said that this combination will be definitely helpful for the people of Assam.

AICC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh said that the BJP has destroyed the country and always playing communal politics.

“They have given lots of promises, assurances to the people in every election, but they forget it after the elections. We all six parties come forward to save Assam,” Jitendra Singh said.
