Prayagraj (UP): The funeral of gangster Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad took place at Kasari Masari graveyard in Prayagraj on Saturday, with over 200 police personnel deployed at the site, media reports said.

Following Asad’s burial, the administration increased security near Atiq Ahmed's residence in the Chakia locality of Prayagraj.

Asad (19) and one of Atiq Ahmed's prominent aides Ghulam were shot dead in Jhansi by the Uttar Pradesh Police Special Task Force on April 13. Both Asad and Ghulam were accused in the Umesh Pal murder case and had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on their heads.

According to media reports, Atiq Ahmed could not attend the funeral as his application for attendance could not be presented in the court of a chief judicial magistrate before the burial on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Asad’s mother Shaista Parveen, who is also an accused in the case and is currently absconding, did not attend her son's funeral.

Nearly 20-25 relatives of the family were allowed to attend the funeral that took place near Atiq Ahmed’s property in Prayagraj and lasted for an hour.

Ghaulam’s relatives have refused to take his mortal remains and police said his body will be buried in another location.

Earlier, Asad's uncle, Usman, reached the graveyard with the body of his nephew.

Atiq Ahmed and his wife had asked Asad to flee to a Gulf country to evade police radar. However, the plan failed due to passport and other issues, media reports said.

Atiq Ahmad has several sons who are currently detained in different jails or juvenile homes due to their involvement in separate cases. The eldest son Umar is imprisoned in Lucknow jail, and the second son Ali is imprisoned in Naini Central Jail. The fourth son Ahjam and the youngest son Aban are currently held in a juvenile home in Prayagraj.

A video has surfaced of Asad, which is seven years old. The footage shows a young Asad firing a pistol in the air.

Meanwhile, media reports said that Atiq Ahmed has threatened to avenge his son’s killing in the police encounter. He reportedly said that he will show (take revenge) the cops involved in the encounter once he is out of jail.
