Arvind Kejriwal's visit to Delhi's landfill site triggers AAP-BJP faceoff

Kejriwal Thursday visited the saturated landfills in Ghazipur prompting the BJP workers to show black flags and raise slogans against the Chief Minister.

In counter, the AAP workers raised slogans against the BJP, which is not in power in the national capital but runs the civic body, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Reacting to the BJP protests, Kejriwal, who is aiming to wrest power in the MCD in the coming polls, said, "What did BJP give to Delhi except mountains of dirt and garbage?"

"Vote for the country by forgetting your party once," the Chief Minister, who was accompanied by his deputy Manish Sisodia, said urging the BJP supporters.

In a bid to highlight the works the AAP government boasts of, Kejriwal said his party workers won't protest if the BJP counterparts visit the government schools and clinics that have drawn appreciation.

The war of words is likely to further escalate as the MCD elections are expected to be held by the end of 2022 or early 2023.

Kejriwal's AAP has also locked horns with the BJP in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's backyard Gujarat, which the saffron camp has been governing for close to three decades.
