Arvind Kejriwal is Delhi CM again, assures to deliver
Kejriwal said in keeping with the idea of Anna movement, he will pass the anti-corruption Jan Lokpal Bill and end VIP culture of red lights.
"From today you will take the breath of freedom and I am sure slowly corruption will end," said Kejriwal.
He is the eighth chief minister of Delhi.
The ceremony was held at the Ramlila grounds, a sprawling public park in the national capital. Sitting arrangements were made for about 35,000-strong people to attend the oath-taking ceremony though the turnout far surpassed the arrangement.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung administered the oath of office to Kejriwal, who is reportedly running fever, and other ministers.
"Inquilab, Bharat Mata Ki," shouted Kejriwal after the swearing in and people responded saying "zindabad" and "jai" lustily.
"After one year now again the AAP government is in power in Delhi. The difference is that the eight seat deficiency is not there anymore. This time we came with full mandate," he said.
"I knew people of Delhi loved me. But I did not know it was so much. Every one voted for us- Hindu, Muslim, Christians, Sikh, all. Both rich and poor voted for us. This is a miracle of the nature that we got 67 of the 70 seats. The god is trying to say something, we have to understand it and follow the order from above. We are just medium and we feel blessed that God chose us as the medium," said Kejriwal.
"Such success also brings about arrogance. And then everything ends. So all of us- me, my ministers, MLAs, all workers- have to be very careful. See inside and ensure there is no arrogance inside. It will destroy us. We have to fulfil a mission," he said.
Kejriwal reminded people that Congress and BJP both suffered owing to arrogance.
He said one should take lessons and not try to grab it all.
"For five years I will serve only the people of Delhi. I will do my best to serve them with all my labour and mind," he said.
He took the example of doctors complaining about people in AAP caps indulging in intimidation in hospitals. "I urge the police to arrest anyone who is doing such things wearing AAP cap. Punish him doubly," he said.
He said he will remove corruption from Delhi in five years. "If anyone in Delhi asks you for bribe, do not say no. Do a setting. Put your hands in the mobile. Record the voice. Send it to me. I will do the rest," said Kejriwal.
"We will pass Jan Lokpal Bill in due course. We will work 24 hours," he said.
"I had fever, even today I came here taking Crocin," he said.
He condemned the attack on churches in recent times in Delhi, urged the forces to not pursue such politics. He said he will strive that under him all religious communities are safe.
He said BJP had always spoke of full statehood for Delhi in their manifestos and he reminded the same to the Prime Minister when he met him.
"There cannot be a better opportunity. Now you have a government in Delhi with full mandate and there is now a government in Delhi with full mandate. So this is the best opportunity. I urged the PM to run the whole country and leave Delhi to the people of Delhi," he said.
He assured the traders of Delhi to see that no one harasses them for bribe and urged them to pay tax duly.
He said he will eventually do away with the red light culture and see people do not suffer for VIPs passing.
He said he will take the guidance and help of former super cop like Kiran Bedi (who was pitted against him by BJP) and Congress leader Ajay Maken.
He also thanked the workers of AAP for their selfless job. He also sang a song of secular feelings and brotherhood among people.
Among other ministers who took oath, included Manish Sisodia who will be the deputy chief minister of Delhi.
Other ministers are Asim Ahmed Khan (MLA from Matia Mahal), who is the only minority minister in the cabinet at the moment. Sandip Kumar, an MLA from Sultanpur Majra, and Satyendra Jain, an MLA from Shakoor Basti, also took oath. Other ministers who took oath on Saturday are Gopal Rai (Babarpur MLA) and Jitender Tomar (Trinagar).
Everyone was invited to the swearing-in ceremony. Kejriwal had recited poetry in radio ads to invite Delhi’s aam aadmi (common men and women) for the auspicious event.
AAP had also invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, members of the Union Cabinet and opposition leaders like Ajay Maken and Kiran Bedi for the ceremony.
Around 3,000 security personnel were deployed to monitor security arrangements at the venue. As many as 50 CCTV cameras and 12 LCD screens were added to the venue.
AAP, which earlier was in power in Delhi for 49 days with Congress support before Kejriwal resigned in Feb 2014, swept the polls in Delhi this time by winning a record number of 67 of the total 70 seats.
