Arvind Kejriwal announces GoM on women safety

New Delhi, Oct 19 (IBNS): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday assured that his government has the political will to ensure women's safety in the national capital and announced that he would form a Group of Ministers (GoM) on women security.

Addressing a press conference on the issue, Kejriwal said that a 15-year-old juvenile should be tried as an adult in case of heinous crimes like rape.

"The GoM will examine lowering the cut off age for juveniles involved in heinous crimes."

He also announced that the GoM will look into the matter whether investigations can be carried out in a time-bound manner.

"We will also ask the forensic labs to fast track proceedings in rape cases," he said.

This comes after Delhi has witnessed back to back incidents of rapes of minors.

In the first case, a two-and-a-half year old girl was raped allegedly by two men who abducted her from outside her house in west Delhi's Nangloi area.

In the second incident on the same day, a five-year-old was raped allegedly by three men in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area. The girl was reportedly alone at home when a neighbour of theirs  took her to his house and then allegedly raped her along with his friends.

Both of them sustained severe injuries.

The incidents took place a week after the rape and torture of a four-year-old girl in Delhi.
