Arun Jaitley slams Rahul Gandhi over his 'GST concept'

New Delhi, Dec 1 (IBNS): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday attacked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi over his single GST issue.

Jaitley called Gandhi's concept as a 'stupid idea'.

"What Rahul Gandhi suggested was single GST rate of 18 %. This is different from suggesting a cap of 18 %. This was the grand stupid idea. Can a Hawai chappal and a BMW car be taxed at the same rate?," Jaitley tweeted.

The Indian government on Monday said its Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection till Nov 27 totalled Rs 83,346 crore.

"A sum of Rs 83,346 crores has been collected as Total Revenue Collection under GST for the month of October, received in November till 27th November 2017," read a government statement issued on Monday.

The statement further said 95.9lakh taxpayers have been registered under GST so far, of which 15.1 lakh are composition dealers who are required to file returns every quarter.

50.1 lakh returns have been filed for the month of October till 26th November 2017, it said.
