Guwahati/IBNS: While over 3 lakh COVID-19 cases have been detected across the country in a single day, a report came from Assam’s Cachar district where around 300 air passengers fled from an airport without COVID-19 tests.

The incident took place at Silchar airport on Wednesday where around 300 air passengers coming from outside of the state fled from the airport by skipping COVID-19 tests.

Following the incident, the district administration is now preparing to lodge FIR against the air passengers who fled from the airport without COVID-19 tests putting the lives of the other people at risk.

According to the reports, on Wednesday 690 passengers deboarded from six flights that landed at Silchar airport.

Out of the total passengers only 189 passengers had tested themselves for the COVID-19 and six of them were tested positive.

Cachar district Additional Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattavan said that, yesterday 690 passengers of six flights deboarded at Silchar airport.

“Out of 690 passengers 189 passengers had tested themselves for COVID-19 and six of them had tested positive. 46 passengers took exemption by saying that they were coming from Guwahati or they will go to other destinations of the North Eastern states. Around 300 air passengers had moved out without getting themselves COVID-19 tested,” Sumit Sattavan said.

On Wednesday, in an order issued by the Assam Health department stated that, all passengers arriving by flights and trains from outside of the state will have to undergo compulsorily home quarantine for seven days, even if the result of the COVID test undergone on arrival, is negative.

Assam on Wednesday had reported 1,665 COVID-19 positive cases.
