Mumbai/IBNS: While the police investigates ex-Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry's on the spot death in a car crash, industrialist Anand Mahindra has pledged to wear a seat belt whilst sitting even at the rear seat of a car.

Mahindra's tweet highlighted the fact brought to light by media reports that Cyrus Mistry was in his vehicle's backseat without wearing a seatbelt.

He tweeted, "I resolve to always wear my seat belt even when in the rear seat of the car. And I urge all of you to take that pledge too. We all owe it to our families."

Aged 54, Cyrus Mistry passed away on Sunday while commuting towards Mumbai from a small town in Gujarat called Udwada.

He was accompanied by an ex-independent director at Tata Group Darius Pandole, his wife Anahita Pandole and brother Jehangir Pandole, an NDTV report confirmed.

The steering wheel was manned by Anahita, according to media reports.

The police said she might have lost control of the car in an attempt to overtake another vehicle quickly and hit a road divider.

Mistry and Jehangir Pandole were at the backseat of the car with no seatbelt on, as per media reports.

Darius Pandole and Anahita Pandole were left seriously injured and taken to the hospital, NDTV reported.

Mistry had been ousted as the Chairman of Tata Sons in a boardroom battle in 2016, which created a  rift between the Mistry's and Tata's as they awaited the decision of years-long courtroom rivalry, as per media reports.

Previous year, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the Tata's by making it clear that Cyrus Mistry's exit was legal.
