Amritsar railway mishap is an accident, not the time to point fingers: Navjot Singh Sidhu
Amritsar, Oct 21 (IBNS): Punjab Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday said the Amritsar train mishap incident killing over 60 people on the track is an 'accident' and no one should point fingers at others over the issue even as his wife’s presence as chief guest at the Dussehra event where the tragedy occurred was criticised.
Sidhu visited the hospital to meet the injured people on Sunday.
"This is an accident. This is not the time to point fingers," Sidhu told reporters.
The opposition BJP and SAD in Punjab have been criticising the Punjab minister over the incident as his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu was the chief guest at the Dussehra celebration at Jora Phatak in Dhobi Ghat area, the scene of the tragedy.
Meanwhile, several protesters, who were demanding for action against the train driver, became violent on Sunday and clashed with the police near the railway tracks here.
"Protesters pelted stones at police trying to get them to clear the railway track at Jora Phatak, prompting police to react similarly," reported The Tribune.
More than 60 people were killed during a train tragedy in Punjab's Amritsar area on Sunday.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Incident.
Over 60 were killed when a train ran over people who were standing on the railway track to watch the burning of Ravana effigy on Friday.
Ravana effigies were burned across the country, including in Amritsar city, as a part of the Dusshera celebrations.
