Amit Shah unveils Bengal BJP’s poll manifesto, promises reservation in jobs, free health, education for women

Kolkata/IBNS: In a bid to reach out to the women voters, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has promised reservations for women in government jobs in the West Bengal poll manifesto unveiled on Sunday.

In the manifesto, which has been unveiled by Union Home Minister and BJP strongman Amit Shah here, the BJP has promised 33 per cent reservations for women in the government jobs.

Besides jobs, the education for girls from KG to PG will be made free if the BJP comes to power, the party has claimed.

The BJP in its manifesto said its government if formed on May 2 will make healthcare and transport free for women.

Shah said the BJP, if comes to power, will implement the Centre’s health scheme Ayushman Bharat and farmers’ scheme PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, which have been stalled by the Mamata Banerjee from running for years.

The Home Minister said his party-led state government will implement the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act which aims to grant citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Parsi, Jain but not Muslim refugees who came to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before 2015.

Like the incumbent Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s 'Maa Canteen', the BJP said it will provide free meals trough 'Annapurna Canteen' at Rs. Five thrice a day.

The saffron party, which is aiming to oust the 10-year old TMC government in the upcoming polls, said it will provide free electricity only usage up to 200 units in Kolkata, the capital city of the state.

To enhance global recognition, Shah announced the BJP government after coming to power will institute Tagore Prize on the lines of Nobel Prize and Satyajit Ray Award on the lines of Oscars.

Sharply reacting to the manifesto, the TMC has stated, "The BJP didn't keep its earlier promises like Rs. 15 lakh to every bank account and two crore jobs per year. The manifesto is entirely valueless."

Taking a dig at the poll manifesto, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien tweeted, “A resident of Gujarat with a resident of Madhya Pradesh by his (right) side, releases a manifesto and then makes a full speech in Hindi to create a #ShonarBangla.”
